Throughout Africa, soils can benefit from application of refined boron. Of course, this vast region comprises a multitude of climates, soil types, and crops. Yet frequent droughts and pervasive sandy soils mean that most growers here can see higher yields and greater ROI through the use of refined boron.

Boron is an essential micronutrient that affects plant growth and crop yield. Although raw or unrefined mineral sources are often promoted as being equal to refined boron, mineral boron products have several drawbacks. Our refinement process guarantees both purity (as opposed to raw minerals, which often contain contaminants like heavy metals) and water solubility (the main measure of how much boron is available to crops after application). The result is a higher value in use—and ROI.
U.S. Borax provides both crystalline pentahydrate borax (Fertibor®) and a granular form (Granubor® Natur). This type of borax provides 15% refined boron. The crystalline form is typically used in compound fertilizers or direct soil applications; the granular form is designed for NPK fertilizer blending, with a granule size of 2 to 4 mm. Granubor Natur is ideal for blending, thanks to this optimal granule size (which does not segregate from other nutrient particles), low dust, and high solubility. Granubor Natur is approved for blending around the world and has approval from the Soil Association Certification Limited of the U.K. for use in organic food processing.

West Africa (including Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Mali, Nigeria, Togo)
In West Africa, cotton is an important crop that depends on boron for healthy growth and yields. Along with oil palm, cocoa, and a variety of fruits and vegetables, cotton benefits from the application of refined boron throughout the growing season.

Boron deficiencies in oil palm, for example are seen as hook leaf, poor seed set, deformed leaves, and stunted plants with areas of necrosis.
